We are Aaron and Donna-Marie.
Our journey started with a concussion, marking the end of full-time work for DM and a very significant change in our lives.
Hard too with a teenager and young twins, so we needed a side hustle.
An opportunity with another kettle corn business ignited our passion to create our own venture.
And so, 3 Monkeys Kettle Corn was born.
These are our three monkeys, and they are the reason why we are doing this.
Our eldest, Madison, is 15 and very brand conscious.
We're trying to instil in her the value of hard work so she can appreciate the fruits of her labour and also learn the importance of saving for her future.
Our Twin Monkeys - Georgia & India-Rose - are now 6.
Miss Georgie would love to come to every event & help "scoop" but as the attention span is limited, she helps us with the labelling at home for now instead.
Miss Indie is on a hell of a journey... she suffers from Topical Steroid Withdrawal, something we never knew could happen or was even "a thing".
Support is extremely limited but we've found an amazing charity in True Colours whom is giving us hope.
We are also delighted to be able to support them back in providing them with bags of kettle corn as needed for other families they help.
Our commitment is to only use high-quality New Zealand ingredients for our corn and oil.
Therefore, we have established partnerships directly with growers, by-passing the middleman, to guarantee full traceability from start to finish.
Our amazing corn kernels belong to the "mushroom" variety. They earned this name due to their round, puffy shape rather than any taste resemblance to mushrooms.
The corn we use is certified as both Gluten and GMO-Free, sourced from a grower in Hawkes Bay, and we ensure that no gluten contaminants are introduced during our cooking and storage processes.
Our oil is pure rapeseed canola sourced from the South Island. It's known as "Good Oil" because it has an exceptionally low saturated fat content and a mild flavour.
Rest assured, there is no adulteration or substitution with lower-quality imported oils.
The only additional ingredients we use are sugar and salt, which we've adjusted to ensure the perfect balance—not too sweet or too salty.
Many agree with our approach, and we trust you will as well.
Our goal is to be as eco-friendly as possible while ensuring our kettle corn remains fresh for the longest time possible.
We wanted to avoid using the common metal 'twist tie' for sealing bags, as they frequently end up on the ground post-purchase, posing a threat to animals and becoming a litter hazard.
Therefore, we provide high-quality resealable bags and tubs, which we encourage you to reuse at home or return to us at markets/events for a discounted refill.
Both options are hugely popular with our customers.
The bags serve as an ideal gift, while the tubs, being NZ-made and BPA-free, are excellent for cupboard storage.
